The safari visits the Baroness Karen Blixen humble abode in Nairobi, converted into a Karen Blixen Museum, visits Queen Elizabeth II crowning moment overnight spot in Aberdares “Treetops Lodge” and also a dreamy African village by lake Victoria that boasts the paternal roots of Barack Obama, the 44th President of the USA, before culminating with worlds’ best game viewing National Park, The Maasai Mara Game Reserve. :> Day 01: Nairobi Arrival in Nairobi at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, met by a Jireh Tours customer relation officer and transfer to Hotel. Balance of the day at leisure for relaxation. Overnight at the SAROVA STANLEY HOTEL BB. Distance: 20 Kms: Drive time: +/- 40 minutes :> Day 02: Nairobi - Aberdares Breakfast at the Hotel. This morning we commence our Royalties tour by visiting the Karen Blixen Museum as well as the nearby Giraffe Centre. Lunch at the Safari Park Hotel. Afternoon drive to the Aberdares Area to arrive in Outspan hotel in time for the shuttle transfer to the Treetops Lodge in the heart of Aberdares National Park. Balance of the afternoon and night game viewing from the Lodge precints. Dinner and overnight at the TREETOPS LODGE FB. Baroness Karen Blixen; Karen Blixen (1885-1962), also known by her pseudonym, Isak Dinesen, is famous for her memoir, Out of Africa, an account on her life in magical Kenya from which the popular movie “Out Of Africa” was born and also for several works of fiction, including Seven Gothic Tales (1934) and Winter's Tales (1942). She married her second cousin, Baron Bror Blixen of Sweden, thereby acquiring the title Baroness. Following their separation and divorce, she had a long affair with the safari hunter, Denys Finch Hatton, son of a titled English family. In 1931, after losing the coffee farm in the Great Depression, Karen Blixen returned to Denmark and embarked on the writing career that lasted until her death in 1962. She was played by Meryl Streep in the 1985 film Out of Africa. In her memory, her former Home in Nairobi, Karen suburb (1917 – 1931) was turned into the Karen Blixen Museum and boasts numerous historical artifacts, the relic of early European settlements in Kenya. Treetops History “The birth of a Queen” Treetops Lodge Located in the heart of Aberdares National Park shot into media limelight when Princess Elizabeth learned of the death of her father, George VI which occurred on 6th February 1952, the night she was at Treetops, while in Kenya. It was there that, uniquely, she "went up a princess and came down a Queen". She was the first British monarch since the Act of Union in 1801 to be outside the country at the moment of succession). On the night her father died, Sir Horance Hearne, then Chief Justice of Kenya, escorted The Princess Elizabeth, as she then was, to a state dinner at the Treetops Hotel. She returned immediately to England. The legendary hunter Jim Corbett a resident of Treetops at the time, wrote the now famous lines in the visitors' log book: “ For the first time in the history of the world, a young girl climbed into a tree one day a Princess and after having what she described as her most thrilling experience she climbed down from the tree next day a Queen — God bless her” Distance: 182 Kms Drive time: +/- 2 ½ hours :> Day 03: Aberdares - Lake Nakuru Morning transfer to the Outspan Hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, rejoin your safari driver and proceed to Lake Nakuru passing through Nyahururu with a brief stop to catch a glimpse of the Thompson falls, the highest waterfall in Kenya. Lunch at the Lodge in Lake Nakuru National Park. Late afternoon game viewing and bird watching drive in the park. Dinner and overnight at the SAROVA LION HILL LODGE FB. Lake Nakuru National Park: With a total area of 368 sq. km, home for more than 450 different kinds of birds, Lake Nakuru is one of the finest ornithological sights in the world, famous haunt of thousand of flamingoes which feed on the algae in the 40 cm deep lake. This beautiful shallow alkaline lake, just south of Nakuru town, is surrounded by acacia woodland and rich savannah. Superb example of conservation at work in the wild, it is now, with the assistance of the World Wildlife Foundation, providing sanctuary for Rothschild Giraffe, Black and White Rhino and Leopard who live in perfect harmony in this aquatic landscape. The edge of the lake is frequently a crimson ribbon of Greater and Lesser Flamingoes, while pelicans and other water birds swim and fish in majestic flotilla formation. Distance: 260 Kms Drive time: +/- 3 ½ hours :> Day 04: Lake Nakuru - Kericho - Kisumu Breakfast at the Lodge, this morning depart with a brief game viewing drive en-route as you drive to Kericho, the rich Agricultural highland with expanse of beautiful tea plantations. Lunch and tea at the Kericho Tea Hotel. Afternoon drive to Kisumu City, by Lake Victoria. Dinner and overnight at the IMPERIAL HOTEL FB. Distance: Nakuru – Kericho 110 Kms: Drive time: +/- 1¼ hours Kericho – Kisumu 90 Kms: Drive time +/- 1 hour :> Day 05: Kisumu Leisurely breakfast at the Hotel. This morning we will have an orientation tour of the Kisumu City with your picnic lunches, the tour will culminate with a visit to the Kogello Village, a sleepy Kenyan Village, close to Lake Victoria that boasts the paternal roots of Barack Obama, the 44th President of USA. If time allows, you will be able to meet and have a talk with his kin, mama Sarah Obama, the paternal grandmother to the President (subject to her availability as she grumbles with her new celebrity status in life). President Barrack Obama traces his paternal roots in a sleepy Kenyan village (Kogello), close to Lake Victoria shores, a couple of hours drive from Maasai Mara where world greatest wildlife spectacle of lmigrating herds of wildebeests and zebras retrace their steps to the Serengeti plañís, teh phenomena, Great Migration happens every year . Dinner and overnight at the IMPERIAL HOTEL HB. :> Day 06: Kisumu - Maasai Mara Breakfast at the Hotel, this morning depart for the world famous Maasai Mara National Reserve to arrive in time for lunch at the lodge. Afternoon game viewing drive in Maasai Mara. Dinner and overnight at the MARA SERENA LODGE FB. Distance: 260 Kms Drive time: +/- 4 hours :> Day 07: Maasai Mara Full day in Maasai Mara with a morning and afternoon game viewing drives in the Reserve where fluorishing wildlife species abound. All meals and overnight at the MARA SERENA LODGE FB. Maasai Mara National Park Situated in the heart of the Great Rift Valley, with an area of 1,812 sq. km, limited to the East by the Talek river and Loita plains, Masai Mara, Kenya´s leading Game Reserve, lies on the border between Kenya and Tanzania and is the northern extension to the renowned Serengeti plain. A reserve of breathless vistas, a panorama of vast rolling plains, hills and woodland groves, well watered by the Mara River, concentrating in its proximities permanent populations of wildlife: this is lion, leopard, cheetah and elephant country, with buffalo lurking in the forest and a superb abundance of plains game: zebras, Thompson and Grant gazelles, topis ... But all this richness is secondary to the Mara main attraction: the annual migration, which takes place between July and September. Over a million wildebeest, more than two hundred thousand zebra with their attendant predators cross the Mara River and spread across the plains in a seemingly endless procession. :> Day 08: Maasai Mara - Nairobi & Departure Breakfast at the Lodge and embark on a return drive to Nairobi. On arrival in Nairobi, drop off at the Sarova Stanley Hotel (use of room & meals NOT included). At a later hour, transfer to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your scheduled International Departure flight (03 hour prior to international departure flight time).
